Cake on Cake – Visiting the Venice Biennale

Uncanny little ditty I found on Spotify that no one has yet transcribed the lyrics to.  Apparently it’s a strange little two-person Swedish band that is currently dormant. Here it is! (link so song at the bottom of the post)

Cake on Cake
“Visiting the Venice Biennale”

Venice
You look like
Something from a history book
That’s what we thought
When we arrived
After flying frighteningly close to the Alps
And the days we spent
At the tourist beach
Or we roamed the streets
With our video camera
You were fooling me
To buy a Prada bag
From a man at the street
??? by the police

Mother,
I’m having a great time here
I saw a great installation
In the French Pavilion

And the days we spent
Trying to look at St Mark’s
So we could tell our teachers
What we liked and did not
But instead we all
Fell asleep in the park
Or ended up in the café
Or started planning the evening’s dinner

Venice
I heard a rumor
That your streets will soon be sinking
Down to the bottom of the ocean

And the days we spent
Trying to look at St Marks
Or at the tourist beach
Drinking Campari and soda
Or some strong coffee
In a really small small cup
Or we fell asleep in the park
Or writing a postcard home.
